We at the ABC/VNH Regional office want to serve our pastors well.
Would you please take this short, 3-question clergy care survey? Your responses are anonymous and we greatly appreciate your time in helping us better pinpoint your needs.
There are several new pastors around the Region and we hope to feature each one here on the Region’s website and say WELCOME and thank them for the energy and love that they pour into God’s work.
Patti and Jon Stratton
Patti and Jon Stratton come to ABCV/NH after 20 years of ministry in Maine. Pastoral ministry is a second career for both. Jon was a Music Teacher prior to graduating for Eastern Baptist Theological (now Palmer) Seminary in 1994. Patti is a Registered Nurse and graduated from Bangor Theological Seminary in 2013.
Accepting the call to co-pastor First Baptist Church of Rutland is their first official call together. They arrived in Rutland in July and began the ministry on August 1. Patti and Jon are taking time, getting to know their congregation and new city.
Patti says, “This church has so much potential! We are excited to be here and to see what God has planned for us personally as a family and as a faith community. Our meeting house is in a great location, it’s big and has so much space to offer for ministry and community gatherings. We are happy to be a part of the” new thing” God is doing.”
Jon and Patti have 4 children, two grown and on their own and two still at home. Tim is almost 18 and a Senior at Rutland High School. Andy is 16 and a sophomore at RHS. They are settling in nicely and becoming involved in much that Rutland has to offer.
Please join us in saying ‘welcome’ to the Stratton family and prayer for their ministry in Rutland.
It’s hard to believe that in a few short months, we will be meeting for the ABC/VNH Annual Gathering. While the planning committee is hard at work, attendees can look forward to a “call to action,” by Region Minister, Rev. Dale Edwards. Rev. Edwards is calling on everyone in our Region to join in 60 Days of Prayer.
Praying and singing the Psalms has a long tradition among Christians and Jews. After all they were written to be sung. That is especially so with Psalms 120-134. These 15 Psalms are commonly known as the Psalms of Ascent. They were traditionally recited and sung by Jews as the traveled up to Jerusalem for one of the three annual festivals that the Jews celebrated.
As our Region prepares to “go up to” Rutland on May 1st and 2nd, let’s join together in prayer for our churches, pastors and staff here in Vermont and New Hampshire.
More information along with a special “60 Days of Prayer” booklet will be available very soon. In the meantime, get your prayer muscles strengthened by praying that God will be seen, heard and experienced in our Region as never before!
A clergy survey will be sent out in the next week or so, in order to take a “pulse” on what our pastors’ training needs are currently and how we can help meet them.
Are you struggling with pastoral care? How to set boundaries? Dealing with a difficult funeral? The survey will open the discussion but we want you to know that we are here for you anytime! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are feeling lost about how to start a process or handle a certain situation.
Keep an eye out for the survey and stay warm out there!
“…For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.” ~1 Corinthians 13:12-13
It seems hard to believe now, with the temperature at or below zero for weeks on end, but spring really WILL come! Women pastors, don’t forget this exciting opportunity coming up on April 18th. Mark your calendars now so you don’t forget! Also, if you haven’t already–while you have those calendars out–everyone mark a big circle around May 1st and May 2nd. That’s the date of the ABC/VNH Annual Gathering. This year’s event will be held in Rutland and more details will be coming in the weeks ahead.
This month’s e-Newsletter features an article from one of the Region’s new writers, Linda Matchett called “Running Ahead of God?” We’ve also got a listing of some great things happening around the Region. Be sure to check it out!
